Links to Everywhere
Information and links for home swimming pool owners and users. Topics linked here include swimming pool chemistry and operation, swimming pool safety, specific chemical systems including ozone and copper, and so forth. Some of the more technical information is accessible from the main main links page or on our commercial links page. Also, please be aware that, while we have tried to organize the included links, and provide some information, the presence of a link in this list is not necessarily a recommendation.

AquaDoc pool magnets
- Buy a magnet to help in "maintaining the perfect water conditions
for your pool or spa" for the "Internet Special Pricing" of $249.99
(4/17/97)
Copper
chemical hazards (backup

- The next time someone tells you copper isn't a chemical, or is
perfectly safe, have them check out this page! Copper sulfate is the
basis of many common pool algaecides.

NASA
Hypes Copper Ionization (backup

- Ironically, when the copper people claim that they are using NASA
developed water treatment technology, NASA, eager to demonstrate 'civilian'
benefits of space technology is more than happy to agree. Never mind
that the NASA technology, developed to keep clean stored water from
going bad, is not necessarily applicable to open pool water, subject
to constant contamination from swimmers and the environment!
KLEARWATER (ZN) SYSTEM introduces ZINC (OOB!)
Prozone Ozone Purification Systems
- Most ozone mfg. have switched to corona discharge (electric spark)
generation of ozone, due to its much higher output. In the past, numerous
people have questioned whether UV systems can put out enough ozone
to have an effect. This company argues that they can.
We also found a fascinating cost
comparison (backup
copy),apparently posted by one of their dealers, showing that
ozone is about 17% cheaper than chlorine. What they neglect to point
out is that it also requires a $1000+ installation, and that the unit
tested, judging from its electrical consumption, was a commercial
model!
The dealer's comments note that on the ozone system, the "water clarity
was excellent and typical chlorine odors were non-existent". Of course,
if they maintained the chlorine pool properly, it also would have
had excellent water clarity, and have been odor free. The study apparently
was performed "by Northern Indiana Power Company, Hammond, Indiana".
It's worth noting that only the ozone system consumed electricity,
which presumably is what "Northern Indiana Power" sells.
Pure Pools [chlorine free pool chemical] (OOB!)
- I can't tell what this is; the hazard info indicates it is an oxidizer,
so it might be a sodium bromide/persulfate blend. Persulfate is an
acid. My recommendation: find out what it is, BEFORE you put into
your pool.
SCT - The AQUA-CLEAR Ionization System (OOB!)
PURICEL - "A NATURAL way to purify
your home pool or spa of bacteria." (Out of the pool business!)
Sigma Pool Systems [ionizers, magnets]
Specialty Pool Products
-[ionizers]
Sunshine
Pool Products [ionizers, magnets, etc.]
Watermaid
- Seems to have dropped copper, and focused on salt water chlorine
generators.
SilverWater Distribution Pty. Ltd. (OOB!)

Lamotte Company
-
One of the main companies producing high quality pool chemistry test kits and equipment. Watch out for their test strips and everyone else's, too! When the local health department switched to test strips, we went through a nightmare summer of screwball readings by environmentalists. Although they are advertised as as having a "Larger desiccant pack for better moisture resistance", we want the health department in Alaska or Hawaii, or maybe Guam to test them first. The strips apparently are not too bad — so long as they aren't exposed to dampness or humidity. (Fat chance of that around a Georgia pool in summertime!)
